Behind The Normal

Posted by Macintoshashire - May 11th, 2022

Hello everyone!

I hope everybody has enjoyed the pilot for Normal World (especially Axolot4206974) this is a small behind the scenes news post to detail how it went.

The first stage was the Idea, what would it look like? what would it be about? I decided to go for a more birthday themed approach, not only did the idea fit extremely well with Axolot's birthday, but it was a good idea to start on, a basic idea to be a placeholder and mark for longer, character and group driven ones.

The original idea of Part 2 was that the party goes horribly wrong, in which Norman talks about his disappointments with Morris, who explain to Norman that a part doesn't have to be a good nor a bad one, it can just be a party, something to remember, the reason for the rewrite will be explained soon.

Next comes animation, music and voices.

For the music I decided to try and dabble into into making music once more using whatever was available via a free version of a powerful tool called Soundtrap, seriously if you love making music, you'll love Soundtrap.

next is animation, everything was done with Flash, first CS4, then later on I upgraded to CS5.5, and the files still worked after the upgrade so victory hooray

a funny hiccup made during the animation was when initially exporting Part 1, I forgot to delete the sketch layer used for the "We have to split up" scene, I use sketch layers so I can draw what the character is doing, and do both Key and In-between animation. so after coming back from the toilet, I realised, I forgot to delete it, so I quickly went into its .fla file, remove the layer, save. export a new .swf file, then convert, boom problem solved lol.

Finally, the voices, in Part 1, all the voices (except for the Grim Reapers lines which used Adobe's built in SFX) were done with text to speech to save time, and I regret that decision, I wish I didn't do that but too late I did.

In Part 2 half of the lines were recorded by me using my real voice and a GTrust mic, I plan to use real voice acting in the future (except for A Cup and a Spoon Show because the TTS makes it funny).

So why the rewrite? thank procrastination, my enemy, and something I don't wanna do ever again.

Anyways that's most of the BTS, I am considering livestreaming while animating, but that's up to me, that's all, and until next time, Gotta Go!
